Permanent makeup is a treatment that involves using a safe, specialized needle to insert pigments directly into the skin’s shallow layer (0.01–0.03mm from the epidermis). Unlike tattoos, it gradually fades over a few years, allowing for design and color changes to keep up with trends. The procedure is performed by hand or with a machine using sterilized needles.

Since permanent makeup involves inserting pigments into human skin with needles, it is considered a medical procedure and can only be performed by trained doctors or nurses.
